APPEARANCE STANDARDS

In order to promote a family atmosphere at African Lion Safari the park maintains a set of grooming policies.
  • No unusual or extreme hair colors are permitted (e.g. green, blue, pink)
  • Gentlemen are to be clean shaven or have a trimmed beard
  • Hair length for males must be above the top of the shirt collar
  • Earrings are restricted to two per ear, ¼ inch or smaller. In certain departments such as animal care, maintenance and foodservice, studs are to be worn.
  • Visible face or body tattoos are not permitted
  • Studs or rings in the nose, eyebrows, lip, tongue, chin etc are not permitted

FREE UNIFORM AGREEMENT

In order to maintain the "Wild" African Lion Safari image all employees will be required to purchase issued uniform. Half the cost of the uniform will be deducted from each employee’s pay cheque. Employees who work through the Labour Day long weekend will be reimbursed uniform costs on the first pay following the long weekend.Any staff who leaves prior to the Labour Day weekend will be deducted the entire cost of the uniform.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must adhere to corporate grooming and uniform policies.
  • Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Due to the nature of our business, all employees must be able to work various shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Employees must present a valid SIN number (Social Insurance Number) their first day of employment.
  • All employees must be available to work up to and including the Labour Day weekend in September. Thereafter, various hours and positions available until October 12 th 2010.
 KEY INFORMATION:
  • There is no public transportation available to the park; therefore you must have reliable transport.
  • Pay rate and hours vary upon position and department.
  • Housing accommodations are not provided.
  • Training for the Tour department will begin early Spring before the park opens for the season.
  • Limited hours available in each department until our summer season begin.

Job Descriptions

Retail Customer Service Representative
Candidates required for gift shop locations and souvenir book sales at front entrance. Candidates should be friendly, responsible, and have excellent communications skills. Must be able to handle customer inquires and be a minimum of 16 years old.

Duties include operation of POS system/ registers and visa/ debit machines, accurate & responsible cash handling as well as cleaning, inventory and re-stocking of items as required. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Previous cash experience an asset.

Head Cashiers/ Assistant Head Cashiers
Candidates should be friendly, outgoing, responsible, a team player and be able to take initiative. Must have excellent communications/ organizational and mathematical skills. Must also be able to handle customer inquires and concerns.

Duties can include working on POS system/registers, balancing daily cash, counting floats, supervising staff, distributing change and assisting as required. Must be able to handle cash accurately, and work independently with little supervision. Previous experience in a similar position would be an asset. Must be bondable.

Stock Assistant
Candidates required to assist the Retail Stock Manager distribute stock to various park locations. Must be friendly, and customer service oriented. Must have excellent communication, and organizational skills. Computer skills an asset.

Duties include stocking, tagging, price checking all new shipments, theft control, and general customer service. Candidates will be required to attend and pass a Gator/ golf cart safety-training course. Candidates need to be physically fit, as heavy lifting is required.

Assistant Manager Retail
Individual must be outgoing, enthusiastic, and creative. This position requires excellent organizational, communication and supervisory skills. Cash balancing experience an asset. Previous supervisory skills required.

Duties can include hiring, training, scheduling and supervising approximately 45 staff. Assisting with cash controls & balancing, monthly reports, responding to customer concerns, creating displays, ensuring breaks/ lunches occur in a timely manner, opening and closing of main retail store and its outside locations, assisting personnel with all employee paperwork, payroll and uniform.

Individuals will be required to assist supervisors with any customer concerns, training of staff, and supervision of various locations. Candidates must be bondable, have some supervisory experience, and be able to work independently with little supervision.

Supervisors
Candidates must be highly motivated, energetic and be able to work in a fast paced environment. Must also have excellent communication skills and be very organized.

Duties include assisting with staff supervision, inventory, opening and closing of the restaurant and it’s outside locations, and cash controls & balancing. Ensure that breaks/lunches occur in a timely manner and aid in maintaining a high standard of quality, service and cleanliness. Applicants should have at least a year previous experience in the fast food industry.

Stock Room
Individual required to organize and manage incoming and outgoing stock. Candidates should have excellent organizational skills, be able to work with little supervision, and be able to do minimal lifting.

Lot & Lobby
This position is ideal for candidates just entering the workforce. Candidates are required to maintain a level of cleanliness throughout the dinning room and patios. Individuals should be friendly and customer service oriented. Minimal lifting and bending.

Ticketbooth Cashiers
Candidates must be outgoing, friendly, and responsible. Should have excellent communication, mathematical and customer service skills. Must be able to handle customer inquiries and work in a fast paced environment. Previous cash experience an asset. Must be 16 years of age.

Gas Bar Attendant
Candidates should be friendly, responsible and have good communication skills. Must be able to handle customer inquiries and be a minimum of 16 years old. Duties include pumping gas, cleaning windshields and selling oil, windshield fluid etc. Some cash experience an asset.

Head Cashiers/ Assistant Head Cashiers
Candidates should be friendly, outgoing, responsible, a team player and be able to take initiative. Must have excellent communication/ organizational and mathematical skills. Must also be able to handle customer inquires and concerns.

Duties can include working on POS system/registers, balancing daily cash, counting floats, supervising staff, distributing change, ensuring that lunches/breaks are occurring in a timely manner and assisting as required. Must be able to handle cash accurately, and work independently with little supervision. Previous experience in a similar position would be an asset. Must be bondable.

Mechanical Assistant (Student position - seasonal)
Candidates should be friendly, outgoing, flexible and willing to work as a team. Duties include assisting the mechanics in the daily repair and maintenance of all safari vehicles, boats, trains, lawnmowers and other equipment. Assist in inventory, ordering, pick up and delivery of materials, and cleanliness of mechanical work area.

Must have valid driver’s license, experience in small engine repair an asset, have to own basic mechanical tools.

Purchaser
Candidates should be friendly, highly motivated, a self-starter and have good organizational and time management skills. Must have valid driver’s license. Position is Monday to Friday with some early morning start times.

Duties include purchasing supplies as directed by various departments. Accurate record keeping of cash float, signatures and receipts will be required.

Washroom Crew
Candidates should be friendly, outgoing, have a positive attitude and be a team player. Must be a minimum of 16 years old.

Duties can include maintaining sanitary requirements of all washroom facilities and restocking supplies. Will also be doing light maintenance around the outside of buildings which may include washing windows, power washing sidewalks and watering hanging plants.

Washroom Supervisor
Candidates must be motivated, a self-starter and a team player. Must also have excellent communication skills. Supervisory experience would be an asset.

Duties to include supervising a staff of 7 to 9 members. Candidates will be assisting staff in their daily duties of maintaining washroom cleanliness. Will also be scheduling staff, providing direction & motivation and will be maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies as required. This is a very hands-on position.

Grounds Maintenance
Candidates should be friendly, outgoing and will to work. Must be a minimum of 16 years old.

Duties to include cleaning and maintaining park grounds, grass cutting, painting, collecting garbage, directing traffic, parking cars, and other duties as assigned. Some shift work may be involved.

Maintenance Supervisor
Candidates must be motivated, outgoing, and customer service oriented. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills. Supervisory experience would be an asset.

Duties to include supervising general maintenance staff, scheduling, coordinating of staff breaks/lunches, and ensuring that all duties are being completed safely and according to set procedures and protocols.

Front Desk/ Public Relations
Candidates must have strong verbal and written communication skills, good organizational skills, be knowledgeable in word/excel and have the ability to handle visitor inquires and complaints. Must be self-motivated, willing to take initiative and be a strong team player. First aid training and a second language an asset. Must possess valid driver’s license.

Tasks could include administrative duties-booking forms, phones, responding to email, distributing mail, food contracts, printing passes, data entry, labeling/stuffing envelopes. Assisting PR with groups, ushering shows, guest services, conducting surveys etc.

PR & Marketing Assistant
Candidates must have strong customer service skills and have the ability to handle visitor inquiries and complaints. Strong verbal & written communication skills required. Must be self-motivated, willing to take initiative and a strong team player. Must be knowledgeable in word and excel. First aid training an asset.

Tasks could include telemarketing and sales to specific market segments, preparing staff incentive programs, creating bi-weekly staff newsletter, preparation and analysis of statistical reports, conducting on-site market research, assist in coordinating on-site and off site promotions, on-site public relations. Will also assist with motor coach groups, company picnics and youth group camping.

Sales Assistant
Candidates must possess excellent customer service and organizational skills. Computer skills required and knowledge of word and excel are necessary. Must be able to handle visitor inquiries and complaints. Must be self-motivated, willing to take initiative and a strong team player. First aid training and second language an asset. Must possess valid driver’s license.

Tasks include assisting with company picnics- prepare tickets and mail promotional materials, liaise with corporate clients, assist with final food contracts. Assist with youth group camping program. Assist with consignment ticket and coupon program. Administrative duties-phones, group booking forms, update and maintain act database. Assist PR with ushering shows, customer surveys etc.

Guest Services
Candidates should be a self-starter, friendly, outgoing and have good communication skills. Previous experience with first aid would be an asset.

Duties include assisting visitors with questions, administering & maintaining season passport program, issuing stroller/ wagon / wheelchair rentals, assisting with show seating and other duties as assigned. Need to be able to work independently with little supervision. Cash handling skills required as well as ability to work on a POS system/register.

Costume Character
Candidates must be good with children and have a flair for acting and drama in order to bring costume character to life. Should also be physically fit, as costumes can be cumbersome and hot. Must be a minimum of 16 years old.

Duties to include acting as costume character on site and at off site promotions, escorting other characters throughout the park, keeping brochure racks stocked when not in costume and other duties as assigned by the promotions department.

Tour Guide
Candidates must have excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to handle visitor inquiries & complaints. Should also be energetic, friendly, outgoing, a team player and be able to work independently. Candidates should also like to work in various weather conditions.

Tour guides will be trained to drive our safari tour buses, boats and train, while giving informative tours at the same time. Candidates must like working with people as there is daily interaction with our visitors. This department is also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of all the above vehicles. Must have valid driver’s license.

Training for these positions to start weekends in March or early April. Hours for this position are very weather dependent.

Tour Supervisors / Assistant Tour Supervisors
Candidates must have excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to handle visitor inquiries & complaints. Should also be energetic, friendly, outgoing, and a team player and be able to work independently.

Duties to include assisting with hiring/ training/scheduling of approximately 35 staff, ensure that all breaks/ lunches are occurring in a timely manner. Responsible for assisting with all paperwork and performance reviews, communicating any equipment problems and/or staff issues, and ensuring that the proper cleaning of all vehicles is completed. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have some supervisory experience.

Playground Attendants
Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years old. Must have a valid 1st aid certificate and enjoy working with children. Should also be friendly, outgoing, able to handle visitor inquiries and able to administer 1st aid if required.

Duties to include supervising children in our Misumu Bay Wet Play and Jungle Playground areas. Will also include general cleaning of equipment and reporting any equipment in need of repair.

Playground Supervisor
Candidates should be friendly, outgoing, have excellent communication skills, have ability to handle visitor inquiries and be able to administer 1st aid if required. Some supervisory experience and water park experience an asset.

Duties to include supervising/ scheduling playground staff, ensuring breaks/lunches are occurring in a timely manner, assist in completing year end performance reviews, ensure sufficient stock of first aid and cleaning supplies, and conduct and record daily inspections of all wet play and playground equipment and structures.

Animal Attendants-Farm
Candidates should be friendly, outgoing and a team player. Must be a minimum of 18 years old and physically fit. Must have a valid driver’s license. Relevant background and education would be an asset.

Duties can include cleaning & disinfecting animal quarters, handling hay & grain products to assist in feeding livestock, assisting in repairs of fencing and housing, operating remote gates, general labour, operating farm machinery and other duties as assigned.

Parrots & Birds of Prey Staff
Candidates should be friendly, outgoing and a team player. Must be a minimum of 18 years old and physically fit. Must have valid driver’s license. Relevant background and education would be an asset.

Duties can include cleaning and disinfecting cages, feeding birds, general labour such as cutting grass, painting cages and other duties as assigned. Candidates may assist with daily bird shows.

Animal Grooms (Elephant)
Candidates should be friendly, outgoing and a team player. Must be a minimum of 18 years old and be physically fit. Must have a valid driver’s license. Relevant background and education would be an asset.

Duties can include cleaning and disinfecting animal quarters, handling hay and grain products to assist in feeding livestock, assisting in repairs of fencing and housing, assisting with elephant shows, loading elephant/ pony rides, general labour, operating farm machinery and other duties as assigned.

Pets’ Corner Staff

Candidates should be friendly, outgoing and a team player. Must be a minimum of 18 years old and be physically fit. Must have a valid driver’s license. Relevant background and education would be an asset.

Duties include cleaning, feeding, raking, shoveling, sweeping, disinfecting of pens, carrying hay bales and food buckets. Candidates must be able to interact with customers to answer questions, provide information, will be required to fill pellet machines, clean / stock hand wash stations, and pick up garbage.

May occasionally assist with birds and primates on islands
